Outdoor Spaces Designed for the Way Liberty Township Homeowners Live

Liberty Township has grown into one of Butler County’s most desirable residential communities. Located along the I-75 corridor between Cincinnati and Dayton, the township has approximately 44,000 residents and continues to balance residential growth with parks, trails, businesses, and community amenities.

That combination influences the type of outdoor projects homeowners request. Many properties have enough space to create a substantial backyard environment—but making that space feel refined requires more than installing a large patio.

A well-designed Liberty Township backyard may include:

  • Separate areas for cooking, dining, lounging, and gathering around a fire
  • A patio sized around furniture and circulation rather than arbitrary dimensions
  • Retaining walls that manage elevation while contributing to the design
  • Pergolas or shade structures that give the space architectural definition
  • Concrete walks and transitions that connect the driveway, home, patio, and yard
  • Planting that creates privacy without making the property feel enclosed
  • Lighting that extends the use of the space and gives the property a finished appearance
  • Drainage and grading improvements incorporated before the visible features are built

Our role is to make those components work together—visually, functionally, and structurally.

A Growing Community That Still Values Green Space

Liberty Township describes itself as a growing, vibrant community and has adopted long-range planning intended to manage future development while preserving the natural and rural character that contributes to its identity. Its comprehensive planning addresses land use, transportation, utilities, public services, parks, and community growth.

The township also maintains 14 parks covering more than 337 acres, with amenities that include hiking and biking paths, fishing areas, playgrounds, and reservable shelters. Its trail initiative is intended to connect subdivisions, parks, schools, businesses, and other community destinations through a broader network of paths and sidewalks.

That balance between development and outdoor space is relevant at the residential level, too. Liberty Township homeowners often want a backyard that feels polished but not overbuilt—something that provides the comfort and functionality of a resort while still preserving lawn, trees, views, and room to breathe.

High-end Landscaping Services in Liberty Township

Full Outdoor Design and Build

The best outdoor projects begin with a complete plan.

Before selecting patio materials or choosing a fire feature, we consider the entire property:

  • How people move between the house and yard
  • Where dining and lounge furniture will sit
  • How doors, windows, and interior rooms relate to the outdoor space
  • Existing and proposed elevations
  • Water movement and drainage
  • Sun, shade, and prevailing views
  • Privacy from neighboring properties
  • Utility locations
  • Construction access
  • Future additions or project phases

This process helps prevent common problems such as patios that are too small, grills placed in traffic paths, steps added as an afterthought, walls that interrupt the layout, or utilities that become expensive to relocate later.

For larger Liberty Township projects, we can develop an outdoor master plan that allows the work to be completed as one build or divided into logical phases without losing the integrity of the final design.

A Complete Outdoor Plan May Include:

  • Patios and walkways
  • Concrete flatwork
  • Retaining and seating walls
  • Outdoor kitchens
  • Fireplaces and fire pits
  • Pergolas and shade structures
  • Water features
  • Landscape lighting
  • Planting and privacy screening
  • Grading and drainage
  • Lawn restoration
  • Driveway or entry improvements

The objective is not simply to fill the backyard with features. It is to create a property that feels deliberate from the house, patio, yard, and every important viewing angle.

High-end Outdoor Living Services We Provide in Liberty Township, Ohio

These are the most common design/build projects we complete for Liberty Township homeowners.

Landscape Design + Full Property Transformations (Master Planning)

For Liberty Township properties, the best results come from one plan: layout, grading/drainage, hardscape, planting, lighting, and feature placement—designed together so everything looks intentional.

Premium Hardscapes + Patios (Concrete, Pavers, Natural Stone)

We build patios like outdoor rooms: furniture-friendly zones, clear traffic flow, strong edge details, and proper base prep that holds up.

Retaining Walls + Terracing

Walls are often the framework of a great backyard—creating level zones, defining beds, stabilizing slopes, and giving the entire space structure.

Pergolas + Shade Structures

A pergola adds definition and comfort—especially when it’s scaled correctly and paired with lighting so it feels built-in, not “added later.”

Fire Features

Fire features anchor a lounge zone and extend the season. We design around seating, traffic flow, and how you actually host.

Water Features

Water features add calm and texture. We plan for sound, sightlines, maintenance needs, and integration with planting/lighting.

Outdoor Kitchens

Liberty Township homeowners love outdoor kitchens when they function like real kitchens: zones, utilities, prep space, landing space, storage, and lighting.

Landscape Lighting

Lighting is what makes the entire space feel premium after dark—safe paths, ambience, and highlights that show off the best parts of the design.

Custom Patios and Premium Hardscapes

A patio is often the foundation of an outdoor living project, but square footage alone does not make a patio functional.

We design patios around the activities they need to support. A dining table requires adequate room for chairs to pull out. A lounge area needs enough depth for furniture without blocking circulation. An outdoor kitchen needs landing space, utility planning, and separation from primary walkways. Fire features require comfortable seating distances and thoughtful placement.

Our patio and hardscape work may incorporate:

  • Concrete
  • Concrete pavers
  • Natural stone
  • Contrasting borders and inlays
  • Seat walls
  • Raised planters
  • Steps and landings
  • Integrated drainage
  • Transitions between materials
  • Defined dining, cooking, and lounge zones

Material recommendations are based on the architecture of the home, intended use, maintenance expectations, budget, and surrounding landscape. The goal is to select materials that belong with the property—not simply what happens to be popular that season.

High-end Concrete Patios and Flatwork

Concrete is sometimes treated as a basic material, but it can be an excellent choice for a sophisticated outdoor space when the layout and details are handled correctly.

We use concrete for projects such as:

  • Large-format patios
  • Walkways
  • Driveway extensions
  • Outdoor kitchen foundations
  • Steps and landings
  • Pool-adjacent surfaces
  • Utility and equipment pads
  • Modern geometric outdoor spaces
  • Transitions between the home and landscape

The quality of a concrete project is determined by more than the visible finish. Proper excavation, base preparation, reinforcement, thickness, slope, drainage, control-joint placement, and edge work all contribute to how the surface performs.

Visually, we focus on proportions and alignment. Joint patterns should relate to the shape of the patio and surrounding architecture. Steps should feel integrated. Transitions should be intentional. Borders, landscaping, walls, and lighting can then soften the concrete and make it part of a complete outdoor design.

Retaining Walls and Terraced Landscapes

Retaining walls are often necessary to make a Liberty Township backyard more usable, but they should not look like a purely structural afterthought.

A well-designed wall can:

  • Create a level patio or lawn
  • Manage a sloped portion of the yard
  • Reduce erosion
  • Define planting beds
  • Create built-in seating
  • Improve transitions between elevations
  • Add architectural structure to the landscape
  • Help direct water away from outdoor living areas

We consider wall height, drainage, reinforcement, steps, grading, material, and the way the wall will be viewed from both the house and yard.

In some properties, one tall wall may feel imposing. A series of lower terraces may create a more natural transition and provide opportunities for layered planting. In others, a clean wall and broad staircase may better fit the architecture.

The correct solution depends on the property—not a standard wall package.

Pergolas and Outdoor Structures

An outdoor structure can transform an open patio into a more comfortable and architecturally complete space.

Pergolas and shade structures help:

  • Define dining and lounge areas
  • Introduce shade
  • Create a more intimate scale
  • Support lighting, fans, or heaters
  • Add vertical interest to a large backyard
  • Connect the outdoor space visually to the home
  • Improve comfort during hot, sunny weather

Placement and proportion matter. A structure that is too small can feel disconnected from the patio, while one that is too large may overwhelm the yard or block natural light into the home.

We plan structures as part of the overall layout, coordinating posts, footings, furniture, walkways, kitchen components, views, and lighting before construction begins.

Outdoor Kitchens Designed for Actual Cooking

A high-end outdoor kitchen should function as more than an attractive place to put a grill.

We plan outdoor kitchens around the way the homeowner cooks and entertains. Depending on the project, the space may include:

  • Built-in grill
  • Counter and preparation areas
  • Storage
  • Refrigeration
  • Sink
  • Waste and recycling storage
  • Side burner
  • Pizza oven
  • Bar seating
  • Task lighting
  • Electrical outlets
  • Gas, water, and drainage connections

The kitchen should provide convenient access from the home without interrupting the main path to the patio. Smoke, heat, sun exposure, seating, and views should also be considered.

By including the kitchen in the original master plan, we can coordinate utilities and foundations before the patio is completed, avoiding unnecessary cuts, patches, or compromises later.

Custom Fire Features

A fire feature can become the visual and social center of a Liberty Township backyard.

Options may include:

  • Wood-burning fire pits
  • Gas fire pits
  • Linear fire features
  • Fire tables
  • Built-in fireplaces
  • Fire features integrated with seating walls

We design the surrounding area as carefully as the feature itself. Seating distance, wind direction, traffic flow, fuel source, material selection, and nearby structures all influence placement.

The result should feel comfortable with two people on a quiet evening and still function when the homeowner is entertaining a larger group.

Water Features

A water feature can change the atmosphere of a property by introducing movement, reflection, and sound.

Depending on the style of the home and landscape, we may incorporate:

  • Pondless waterfalls
  • Bubbling fountains
  • Contemporary water walls
  • Decorative basins
  • Naturalized stone features
  • Water elements integrated into patios or planting areas

We consider how the feature looks from inside the home, how it sounds from the seating area, and what level of maintenance the homeowner is comfortable managing.

Water features are most successful when they are part of the broader landscape rather than an isolated object placed in an unused corner.

Landscape Lighting

Lighting allows a professionally designed property to remain useful and visually compelling after sunset.

A complete lighting plan may include:

  • Step and wall lighting
  • Path lighting
  • Patio and seating-area illumination
  • Pergola lighting
  • Outdoor kitchen task lighting
  • Tree uplighting
  • Architectural lighting
  • Accent lighting for water or fire features
  • Subtle illumination around entrances and walkways

The goal is not to make the backyard excessively bright. We use layers of light to improve safety, establish depth, highlight selected details, and create a comfortable evening environment.

In a large Liberty Township yard, lighting also helps connect separate areas of the property so the landscape does not disappear into darkness beyond the patio.

Privacy Planting and Complete Landscape Installation

New outdoor living spaces often require changes to the surrounding landscape.

Construction may expose views that were previously blocked, remove overgrown plants, or change the scale of the backyard. We use planting to reconnect the new hardscape with the property and create a more natural sense of privacy.

A planting plan may include:

  • Evergreen screening
  • Ornamental trees
  • Layered shrubs
  • Perennials and ornamental grasses
  • Foundation planting
  • Raised and terraced beds
  • Seasonal color
  • Lawn restoration
  • Planting around patios, walls, and structures

Rather than creating a solid wall of one plant variety, we typically favor layered screening that provides privacy while retaining depth and visual interest.

Plant selection is based on sunlight, drainage, mature size, maintenance needs, deer pressure, seasonal appearance, and its relationship to the home and hardscape.

Grading, Drainage, and Site Preparation

The most attractive patio will not perform well if the site underneath and around it is not properly prepared.

Water management is considered at the beginning of our process, not after construction has created a problem. Depending on the property, the project may require:

  • Corrected grading
  • Surface drainage
  • Downspout management
  • French drains
  • Channel drains
  • Catch basins
  • Wall drainage
  • Erosion-control measures
  • Soil stabilization
  • Reworked transitions between hardscape and lawn

Liberty Township includes both newer developments and established properties, and drainage conditions can vary significantly from one lot to the next. We evaluate what happens during rainfall, where neighboring water enters the property, and how the proposed construction will affect existing drainage patterns.

A properly designed system should protect the hardscape while moving water to an appropriate location without creating a new issue elsewhere in the yard.

Why Liberty Township Homeowners Choose D2 Landscaping

We design before we build:

Our process begins with the property and the homeowner—not a catalog of products.

This allows us to solve layout, elevation, drainage, utility, and material questions before construction begins. It also gives the homeowner a clearer understanding of what the completed space will include and how each element relates to the rest of the design.

We manage the complete outdoor environment:

Projects involving patios, concrete, walls, structures, kitchens, planting, and lighting require coordination. When those elements are divided among unrelated contractors, the homeowner can be left managing schedules, resolving conflicts, and accepting compromises between trades.

Our design/build approach keeps the project connected from initial planning through final installation.

We understand large, multi-feature projects:

High-end outdoor construction is not simply a larger version of a basic patio project.

It requires:

  • More detailed sequencing
  • Utility coordination
  • Elevation planning
  • Material integration
  • Furniture and circulation planning
  • Construction-access management
  • Drainage design
  • Consistent communication
  • Careful finish work

These are the details that allow a multi-feature space to feel cohesive rather than crowded.

We build for long-term use:

A successful project should still feel appropriate years after it is completed.

We prioritize durable construction methods, timeless layouts, materials suited to the property, and features that support the homeowner’s actual lifestyle. We do not recommend adding something simply because it is trending.

Our reputation is visible:

D2 Landscaping has earned 100+ Google reviews from customers throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. For a substantial outdoor investment, that history gives homeowners a broader picture of our communication, service, workmanship, and ability to complete real projects for real clients.

Our Outdoor Design and Build Process

1. Initial design conversation

We begin by discussing what is working, what is not, and how you want to use the property.

Topics may include:

  • Entertaining
  • Cooking
  • Family use
  • Privacy
  • Shade
  • Fire or water features
  • Existing drainage concerns
  • Preferred materials
  • Overall investment range
  • Desired timing
  • Future phases

2. Property evaluation

We walk the site and evaluate the factors that will shape the design:

  • Elevations and slopes
  • Water movement
  • Sun and shade
  • Access for equipment and materials
  • Existing trees and landscaping
  • Doors, windows, and interior sightlines
  • Utilities and mechanical equipment
  • Neighboring properties
  • Existing patios, walls, or concrete
  • Potential permitting or approval considerations

3. Concept development

We develop a layout that organizes the property into functional zones and establishes the relationship between major features.

At this stage, we focus on decisions that have the greatest impact on the project:

  • Patio size and location
  • Elevation changes
  • Walls and steps
  • Structure placement
  • Kitchen location
  • Fire-feature location
  • Movement through the space
  • Privacy strategy
  • Overall material direction

4. Scope and investment alignment

Before advancing into final selections, we make sure the design direction and investment expectations are aligned.

This gives homeowners the opportunity to prioritize features, adjust the scale, or identify logical phases while the plan is still flexible.

5. Detailed design and material selections

We refine the plan and select the materials and details that will shape the finished space.

This may include:

  • Concrete or paver selections
  • Wall materials
  • Borders and accents
  • Pergola finishes
  • Countertops
  • Kitchen components
  • Fire or water features
  • Lighting
  • Planting
  • Drainage components

6. Construction

Our team coordinates the work in the correct sequence, from demolition and excavation through base preparation, utilities, hardscape, structures, planting, lighting, and final restoration.

We communicate throughout the project and address field conditions as they arise.

7. Final walkthrough

At completion, we walk the project with the homeowner, review the finished work, discuss care and operation, and address any remaining details.

Outdoor Living That Fits Liberty Township

Liberty Township’s identity includes both active development and a deliberate investment in parks, trails, and community gathering spaces. Liberty Park, for example, includes nearly a mile of paved path and serves as a location for youth sports and the township’s annual fall festival. Liberty Center spans more than 100 acres and combines shopping, dining, entertainment, events, and civic activity in one mixed-use destination.

At home, that same combination of activity and outdoor living often translates into a backyard that needs to serve several purposes:

  • A comfortable setting for family dinners
  • A place for children and guests to move freely
  • A cooking area that does not feel separated from the gathering space
  • Shade during the day
  • Warmth and ambience during cooler evenings
  • Privacy from nearby homes
  • A polished view from inside the house
  • Durable materials that can handle frequent use

We design around those real needs rather than treating the project as a list of individual products.

Frequently Asked Questions About Landscaping in Liberty Township

Do you provide complete landscape design and construction in Liberty Township?

Yes. D2 Landscaping provides full outdoor design/build services, including patios, concrete, retaining walls, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire and water features, lighting, planting, grading, and drainage. Coordinating these elements through one plan helps produce a more cohesive result.

What types of high-end outdoor projects do you build?

Our larger projects commonly include multi-zone patios, custom concrete, paver hardscapes, retaining walls, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fire features, water features, landscape lighting, and complete property transformations. The exact combination is based on the home, site, and how the homeowner wants to use the space.

Can you create a master plan even if we build the project in phases?

Yes. A master plan can establish the final layout before construction begins. That allows utilities, elevations, drainage, and future features to be considered from the start, reducing the chance that an early phase limits what can be built later.

Do you build custom concrete patios in Liberty Township?

Yes. We design and install concrete patios, walkways, steps, landings, driveway additions, and other flatwork. We focus on layout, base preparation, drainage, joint placement, and finish details so the concrete works with the home and overall landscape.

Do you install paver patios and natural-stone hardscapes?

Yes. Depending on the architecture, intended use, maintenance preferences, and design direction, we can incorporate pavers, natural stone, concrete, or a combination of materials into the outdoor plan.

Can you correct drainage problems as part of the project?

Yes. Drainage and grading are evaluated during the design process. Solutions may include regrading, downspout management, French drains, channel drains, catch basins, wall drainage, or other site-specific improvements.

Can you make an open suburban backyard feel more private?

Yes. We use a combination of plantings, structures, walls, elevation, and strategic feature placement to control important sightlines. The goal is to create privacy where it matters without making the entire yard feel confined.

Do you design outdoor kitchens and fire features?

Yes. We design and build outdoor kitchens, fire pits, fireplaces, fire tables, and related gathering areas. These features are coordinated with utilities, seating, circulation, and the broader patio plan.

How long does a full outdoor living project take?

The schedule depends on design complexity, project size, material availability, approvals, weather, and the time of year. After evaluating the site and confirming the scope, we provide a project-specific schedule rather than a generic estimate.

Highly recommended.
This crew works! Every person at D2 was responsive, kind, capable and hard working. I’m really happy with this company and would highly recommend. They just finished my job and I won’t know for sure if the new drainage will solve all my water problems but so far everything is really good.
I got estimates from 3 companies and everyone was about the same price. Lalo was so responsible and knowledgeable and remembered all the little details and they cleaned up the site afterwards. Great company. Respectful crew. Hardworking. I hate to say it, but it’s really surprising to see the kind of integrity and work I witnessed with D2. I wish we had more businesses like this!!

Top notch! I called a few different places to get a quote for some work I needed done in the back yard. The other place said they would call me back to set up a day to get a quote and I never heard from them. However D2 Landscaping sent me a link the same day to book the free estimate. Estimate was quick and easy, and with in a few weeks they had my yard looking perfect! Lalo was the best, he was very professional and detail oriented. Thank you D2 Landscaping definitely will be recommending!

There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about D2 Landscaping!
I wanted to install a patio off my porch for the express purpose of having an area for my hammock, because my husband didn't want to have to mow around it.
D2 came out, gave an appraisal, we were able to meet my budget and the work began.
I thought about doing it myself and am so glad I didn't.
When I saw the effort the men put forth, Lord have mercy, I know I would not have done it to the standard they met.
AND...they got it done in one day!
David, Roger, and all the men were professional and were willing to go above and beyond my expectations.
If they had questions they asked and answered all of mine.
Ellen, in the office, was so patient with me, as we worked through details that I didn't even realize were involved.
I have already recommended them to family and friends.
Thanks David and crew for who you are, and how you conduct your business.
Good customer service and quality work are hard to find lately, but you stepped up, and I so appreciate you.

We are absolutely thrilled with the final product! Our backyard patio initially had (4) 10x12 slabs in back of the garage that were old, broken and grading toward the rear of the garage. We decided to upgrade and go big....

David @ D2 was responsive, courteous and extremely engaging when explaining what we wanted. I'm happy to say, that's exactly what we got. The guys worked quick, always cleaned up at the end of each day and even fixed my wooden fence door. Can't wait for spring and summer time to enjoy our brand new patio!

We had quite the laundry list of projects for Dave and his team. This included re-routing a drain, digging a french drain on the side of our home, and building a patio (which also required the building of a retaining wall). He was very prompt, courteous and professional. His teams did exceptional work and I would highly recommend Dave's company to anyone. He has a great local small business!
